Plastic Waste to Product Interface Webinar

Hello again PRIMUS community, The 27th of September 2023 we carried out an enlightening webinar and practical workshop on Plastic Waste to Product Interface, with our project coordinator, Anna Tenhunen-Lunkka and the PRIMUS regulatory Work Package leader Mathilde Taveau. One of our missions in the project is to create a wide European definition of recycled plastics, considering the legislative, and regulatory perspectives, as well as forcing to strengthen the complete value chain of plastic recycling. In the webinar we have reviewed the legal texts surrounding the plastic waste-product interface to establish the legal boundaries in which the EU accepted definition of recyclate needs to reside; taking...

PRIMUS attendance in recent events by UEF

Hello community, We are passing by to share that our partners from the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) have recently presented the findings from the PRIMUS project in two important events during the summer. PhD Ville Nissinen and professor Janne Jänis travelled to Houston, United States to attend the ASMS 71st Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics, held from June 4th to 8th. Both presented a poster under the topic “Direct analysis of brominated flame retardants in high-impact polystyrene and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer with DIP-APCI Q-TOF MS”. On the other hand, MSc Eerika Olkkonen, also from UEF attended the 15th European Congress on Catalysis, an...

VTT Active Hyperspectral Sensor explained

Check out our latest video! One of the big challenges in plastic recycling is the quality control of recycled plastic. The degradation degree of the plastic - mainly caused by weathering and exposure to UV (solar) radiation - affects its properties, and may render the plastic unusable. In the PRIMUS project, we are utilizing the novel  VTT Active Hyperspectral Sensor (AHS) to sort the recyclable from non-recyclable plastic waste pieces according to their degradation degree. We have posted a brief simulation video to explain the process so click below to see how it works! https://youtu.be/1MVcEsV4LIE?si=Z9gT2y7JDKn87rWV  ...

PRIMUS at ECP4

Hello community, We recently presented the PRIMUS project in the ECP4 Annual Conference in San Sebastián, Spain. From the worlds of academia, research centres, and trade associations, experts gave their input during the ECP4 event with the topic "Trends in polymers and composites circularity: from advanced materials to industrial applications”. ECP4 The European Composites, Plastics and Polymer Processing Platform is an industry-driven collaboration uniting the top-level European research institutions, regional plastic clusters, and EU-level industrial organisations of plastics and composites converters. Together with other European projects, our partner Carolina Mejía from MONDRAGON Corporation gave an excellent presentation about PRIMUS, explaining the objectives, consortium partners and demontrations that are currently...

3rd Consortium Meeting in The Hague

Circularise and Coolrec hosted the 3rd Consortium Meeting of the PRIMUS Project in the Netherlands In May 8th and 9th PRIMUS partners travelled to The Hague, Netherlands, for the 3rd Consortium Meeting. This has been another opportunity to meet after the last face to face Consortium Meeting in Joensuu, Finland, held in December. During these couple of days we focused on updating the partners about the developed tasks with the chance to discuss the results of the previous months. Furthermore, we engaged in interesting discussions about the recent developments and align future steps for the following months working together in the PRIMUS project. Some of the...
